Codex49rosso is recognised as a one-of-a-kind venue in Florence in the world of events.
Alongside distinctive, fully modular spaces stand books on heraldry and genealogy that tell the story of each of us from the bookcases that hold them, arranged like the tiers of a theatre, creating an atmosphere that stays in the memory.
The Codex49rosso logo was conceived as the shield of a coat of arms with blurred outlines, symbolising the unbreakable bond between past and present, tradition and modernity, history and the contemporary, with the space for interaction at its heart. So that whoever looks at it is swept headlong into a book – the true protagonist of the place and the perfect vehicle for riding through time.
Throughout its history, the Guelfi Camaiani Library has been housed in several important historic locations in Florence, such as Via Maggio, Via Benedetto Castelli, Via Torta and Via Santo Spirito.
The current premises at Via Palazzuolo 49R were chosen for their central location and more contemporary style: an open space with industrial-style glass-block windows. With this choice, we wanted both to place our professional heraldic research studio within a larger setting and to share a unique world of manuscripts, family trees and armorials with people from other worlds – fashion, music, photography, sculpture and modern art – with the books acting as spectators, reflecting different vibrations.

The first time we walked into the rooms on Via Palazzuolo, we knew at once that this would be the perfect home for Codex49Rosso. There was a lot of work to do, but our desire to create a “magical” place for our project – a space in which to organise and host events and experiences – was so strong that nothing could stop us.
The historic bookcases, filled with important volumes preserving the centuries-old memories of thousands of families, would shape the spaces and line the walls; stone details and works of art would blend perfectly into the modern setting, creating a truly special atmosphere.
Codex49rosso is the perfect place to host cultural events and much more, telling new stories to an enlightened audience in the perfect setting in the heart of Florence.
